The small amount of time I get to spend back home is always special, but this time seemed to be even more magical than previous trips home. Perhaps it was because I was able to spend so much time with my mom, sister, brother in law, precious niece and nephew, aunt and grandmother! Throw in one of the most gorgeous islands in the word and I believe I've discovered the recipe to create moments I'll cherish for a lifetime.
Chris and I spent the holiday in Bradenton, Fl, lounging, eating, fishing, beaching, flying, and laughing. We traditionally celebrate Christmas on Christmas eve so we all gathered at my grandmother's house to exchange gifts. My sister gave me one of the most incredible gifts ever, a crocheted mermaid blanket!! Best, gift, ever.
After the ruckus of Saturday, it was time to chill. In B-town, that means hit the beach! Christmas Day on Anna Maria Island is a relaxed, fun, but very crowded atmosphere. All ages are out celebrating with jet ski rides, boat cruises, sun worshiping, and of course, sand castles to round out the Holiday spirit.
My favorite part of our trip was our family beach day. Living in San Francisco you find beaches are for looking at only or must don wet suit to enjoy. We rarely get to build sand castles with beautiful mermaids or play ping pong with pirates!
Chris and I did find time to take a few flights in between family dinners and brunches. Check out our quick video. The Manatee River is so beautiful from this point of view!
Spending time on Anna Maria reminded me of best friends, childhood memories and appreciation for the nature I grew up with. Like all fairy tales, this one came to a happy ending we'res we said goodbye to those we love. Back to 2017 and our beautiful City By the Bay.
We'll of course be back, sooner than later, for more beach side and family fun!
If you're in the area make sure to take in the salty air, pristine sandy beaches and warm water, then head over to any of these restaurants. We highly recommend them and come local approved!
